166 arrests made over the weekend

The City of Cape Town’s enforcement agencies arrested 166 suspects in the last week, two of them on charges of armed robbery.

On Saturday, 9 July 2016, members attached to the City’s Volunteer Law Enforcement Auxiliary Services who were on patrol in their community-sponsored vehicle in the Constantia Valley.

At approximately 01h00, they were informed that a private security firm was following a vehicle used in an attempted house robbery in Plumstead.

The suspects sped off in their vehicle, attempting to flee.

City’s Safety and Security directorate, JP Smith said “The officers caught up with the suspects and arrested three of them after their vehicle crashed into a wall.

The officers also recovered a firearm and an unspecified amount of cash, so this is really a great illustration of the benefits of a strong and well-resourced volunteer corps and how far our auxiliary initiative has come



Also, the City’s Transport Enforcement Unit in Atlantis confiscated more than R18 000 in cash and three packets of ‘tik’ when they stopped a suspicious-looking vehicle in the industrial area last Thursday.

Officers arrested two residents in Saxon Sea.
