A fire broke out at Parow Centre when an electronic switch gear allegedly caught alight. The fire department and ER24 arrived quickly on the scene.
Police had cordoned off the area and were controlling the crowd so that the rescue crews could work speedily. Rescue crews were told on arrival that the area had been evacuated and no-one was inside, says Er24 Tristan Wadeley.
The fire department got to work swiftly on extinguishing the fire, while ER24 attended to a bystander that had injured himself on a fire extinguisher prior to the fire departments arrival, he said.
“The fire was extinguished within minutes; the firefighters then did a sweep of the effected area and assessed the damage.’ It is believed that the power was cut to the centre during the incident.”
The injured bystander was taken by ER24 ambulance to Louis Leipoldt Medi-Clinic for further treatment. The exact cause of the fire will be investigated, says Wadey.
