The national department of arts and culture in partnership with the Makeba family will host a special tribute to honour the music legend, “Mama Africa” Miriam Makeba.
The tribute which was initially scheduled for the 7th and 8th of this month has been rescheduled for the 9th.
This follows after the Makeba family had approached the Department for support for the tribute.
In statement the department says the tribute is part of the department’s ongoing legacy programme to honour the icons of the country.
“We will continue to highlight the everlasting contributions of Mama Afrika to our rich musical heritage,” the statement said.
Miriam Makeba was the first African cultural activist to address the United Nations General Assembly.
“She will be forever remembered for her unique voice and her worldwide monster hit Pata Pata,” the statement added.
The department says she will always be remembered for her warmth and caring and her special musical legacy that brought joy to millions of people globally.
The tribute will also mark the first anniversary of her passing.
