A taxi accident in the Karoo has claimed 10 lives. A taxi and a 22-seater vehicle collided head-on on the R-61 between Beaufort West and Aberdeen early this morning.
Eight people died on the scene, and the other two passed away while being taken to hospital.
Arrive Alive’s Tshepo Machaea says most of the victims had been in the taxi. Fifteen injured passengers have been admitted to hospital.
The accident follows yesterday afternoon’s accident on the N-1 between Beaufort West and Leeu-Gamka in which a father and son were killed and Deputy Human Settlements Minister Zoë Kota-Fredericks and her driver were injured.
The minister’s Mercedes Benz collided head-on with the father and son’s Corsa bakkie. Kota-Fredericks and her driver are recovering in hospital.
