Allegations that right wing farmers were given preferential treatment

The Independent Democrats say they are alarmed by the preferential treatment given to a group of white, right-wing farmers at the Ceres police station.

This was after they were arrested for the possession of arms and ammunition.

Rodney Lentit, the ID Western Cape Provincial Secretary, says it is completely unacceptable that police officials gave the accused special treatment by permitting them to speak only to white police officers.

He says they also received food from their wives and children because they refused to eat food prepared by blacks.

Lentit has requested that the MEC for Community Safety investigate the matter.
