The work of removing fuel from the SA Airlink airliner that skidded off the runway at George yesterday should begin today.
Rain has played havoc in the area, causing the plane to aquaplane off the runway, through a fence and onto the road running next to the airport.
The weather has also hampered efforts to remove the fuel from the badly damaged aircraft.
Officials say the R417 between the airport and the Herold’s Bay turnoff on the N-2 would remain closed for at least three days while the plane is removed.
This was the third incident involving Airlink planes in as many months and an investigation has been officially launched into the airline’s carriers.
