The City Cape Town’s Traffic Officers arrested a vehicle roadworthy examiner at a private vehicle testing centre.
The examiner was arrested for issuing a false certificate to a taxi that was obviously not roadworthy.
Last month a Traffic Officer stopped the taxi in the CBD and found it to have numerous violations including defective brakes, smooth tyres, broken lights and all-round rust.
“He immediately suspended the taxi from further use on a public road,” said the city’s Kevin Jacobs in a statement.
Jacobs says the same officer found the taxi operating in Sea Point on 05 December with the defects still not repaired.
“The driver was in possession of a roadworthy certificate which was obtained on 01 December at Universal Testing Centre,” added Jacobs.
