Congress of South African Trade Union will call on Nedlac to convene a meeting of FIFA, Cosatu and the Western Cape government to set the terms of procurement for the provinces World Cup related activities.

The Union says the World Cup is a cornerstone of South Africa 2010 programme and they all support it and ensure that it goes off smoothly.

Cosatu says FIFA is undermining the World Cup legacy in the Western Cape.

In a media statement Cosatu says the Western Cape is losing jobs as a result of the Fifa actions.

It went on saying it seems that whilst in the rest of the country FIFA and the World Cup related activities are growing the economy, the Western Cape is being prejudiced.

The trade Union have the following reasons:

Ø The clothes and mascots are being made in sweat shops in China;

Ø The traders have been excluded from the soccer stadium precinct and from the City centre;

Ø The companies trying to manufacture local soccer-related merchandise are being taken to court;

Ø The match hotel booking system owned by Seth Blatter’s son in law, is putting such a big mark up on accommodation cost, that it is ripping off World Cup visitors.

Ø The beer deals are leading to all beer being foreign and imported.

Ø The busses used for the World Cup are being imported, when we could be manufacturing them.
