Following the appalling behaviour by ANC Youth League President Julius Malema at a media briefing in Johannesburg yesterday the union, the Communications Union called for the respect for the ANC.
The union says it is extremely unfortunate the hurling of personal insults and outbursts by Malema towards a BBC journalist.
The union says it is merely concerned by immaturity and disrespect by Malema as it degrades the ANC.
“The CWU calls upon Malema to admit that he has erred in this instance, and should therefore, in all humility, offer an apology not only to the affected journalist, but to the ANC and to the youth of South Africa as a whole,” the union says in a statement.
The unions says they are of the view that the antiques and theatrics by the Malema are not worthy of him being called a revolutionary neither of being a leader of the ANC.
“We appeal to the ANCYL President to respect the name and members of the ANC by fumigating his littered tongue,” added the statement.
Malema called Jonah Fisher a “bastard” and a “bloody agent”.
The union’s Matankana Mothapo demands an apology from Malema, saying he has cheapened the name of the African National Congress.
Meanwhile the National Press Club have called an urgent summit to discuss a possible news boycott against Malema.
The South African National Editors' Forum has also slammed Malema’s behaviour.
