The International Relations and Co-operation Department says it cannot confirm at this stage that there were any South Africans onboard the aircraft that crashed in Libya this morning.
The airbus A330 left OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg last night en-route Tripoli with more than hundred passengers on board.
Spokesperson Nomfanelo Kota says any person who believes they have a relative who might be on the plane should contact their office.
Kota says the department has set up an emergency response centre to deal with the aftermath of the crash and assured that the department will continue to monitor the situation.
Details about the crash are sketchy at this stage.
The department can be contacted on 012 351 1000.
