Transport Minister Sbu Ndebele conveyed his condolences to the relatives and loved ones of those on board the Afriqiyah Airways aircraft that left just over 100 passengers dead yesterday.
In a statement Ndebele extended the Department’s thoughts and prayers to loved ones during their time of bereavement.
“As the Department of Transport, we are providing necessary assistance to the relevant authorities.
The South African Civil Aviation Authority is in contact with a representative from Global Aviation who is at the scene of the crash.
Meanwhile, Afriqiyah Airways said it will fly relatives of the deceased to Tripoli in Libya.
The airline company said aside from providing transport, it would also offer accommodation and assistance.
