Eastern Cape police say a 34-year-old man has been arrested in Mhala near Dutywa after he allegedly murdered his elderly mother.
Police spokesperson Captain Lingisile Magama is quoted as saying the woman's two grandchildren went to call the neighbours around 2pm yesterday afternoon, telling them that their father was stabbing the grandmother with a spear.
When the neighbours arrived at the scene the 76-year-old woman was already dead. Magama said she had stab wounds all over her body.
The son was arrested and would appear in court soon.
