The South Africa Revenue Service has entered into a settlement agreements to resolve disputes with major institutions regarding cross-border transactions.
The total value that Sars gains from the settlements is in excess of R3 billion.
The institutions cannot be identified due to the confidentiality afforded taxpayers.
The institution says they acted in good faith when they entered into the transactions in light of independent legal advice they got at the time.
But the tax man regards the transactions as unacceptable tax avoidance.
