Southern Cape police have confirmed that a 39-year-old suspect, who was arrested for a fatal crash, had previous convictions.

Friedel Roller was taken into custody last Friday.

He tried to evade arrest after police tried pulling him over, after he overtook an officer on a solid line.

Roller was arrested after he crashed into another car.

Eleven-year-old Sonika Van Wyk died at the scene as well as her friend Dante Hageman.

The police’s Malcolm Poje said that the charge was eventually changed from culpable homicide to murder.
