The Western Cape Fisheries Department says it cannot confirm whether a possible red tide along the west coast posses any threat.

The red tide is on the north of Lambert’s Bay.

A red tide is a reddish or brownish coloration of the water caused by the rapid reproduction of a variety of toxic organisms.

The department's spokesperson Lionel Adendorf said that they have been monitoring the changes on the west coast for quite some time now.

Adendorf added that they have now raised the alert level from green to yellow.
