The Food and Allied Workers Union on Wednesday said about 2 000 farm workers from Ceres and De Doorns will be marching today for better working conditions.

Fawu Organiser Xolisi Mngxunyeni said the workers are demanding amongst other things a national bargaining forum to centralise negotiations and negotiate the same benefits for all the workers under the Du Toit group.

Mngxunyeni said we at FAWU have demanded the workers that enough is enough. We have to march to Du Toit head offices as they are the main agricultural group based here in Ceres not only here in Ceres but across South Africa.

Mngxunyeni said the workers have expressed their views that they have been seasonal workers that the Du Toit group calls to work during summer.

“They have been working for 30 years and still don’t have any permanent positions as they in search of job security from the Du Toit group Mngxunyeni added.
