Three suspects arrested for robbery in Woodstock

Three suspects aged between 22 and 35-years-old have been arrested for being involved in an armed robbery in Mitchell’s Plain.

The suspects robbed a British American Tobacco employee at gun point of cigarettes worth 350 000-Rand and fled the scene.

The suspects will appear at the Cape Town Magistrate Court on Monday on charges related to armed robbery and possession of stolen goods. 

Sergeant Hilton Malila said it is believed that the suspects fled in a white Toyota and a ford bantam bakkie in an unknown direction after the robbery.

Malila said no shots were fired as police spotted the vehicle in Victoria road Woodstock and during the pursuit the vehicle was stopped on the corners of Devon and Victoria road.

Malila said when police approached the vehicle the suspects jumped out and ran down Devon’s street apprehended during the chase.

Malila said during the searching of the vehicle police recovered 150 cartons of cigarettes, police also recovered the keys of the van on the scene where the suspects were arrested.

“We opened a case of armed robbery for investigation purposes” Malila added.
