YCLSA condemns the decriminalisation of consensual acts by children

The Young Communist League of South Africa has raised its concerns regarding the decriminalisation of consensual acts by children between the ages of 12 and 16-years-old.

Parliament’s Justice Committee has to amend the 2007 Criminal Law-Sexual Offences and Related Matters Act to bring it in line with two Constitutional Court judgments.

YCLSA Spokesperson Khaya Xaba said we should teach our children on morality and we should make sure that children at that age are not engaging in any form of sexual acts.
Xaba said they should be in school, they should be concerned with enjoying their youth and finishing school.

“Therefore we are against the role of making sure that decriminalisation of sex at that age doesn’t pass” Xaba added.
