The Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers Union have announced that its members in the Cotton Textile sector will receive an 8.5 percent wage increase.

The agreement which was reached in August last year was negotiated and concluded under the auspices of the National Textile Bargaining Council.

SACTWU’s Deputy General Secretary Chris Gina said in 2014 we concluded quite a range of a two year duration wage agreement that runs between clothing factories up to textile factories, so it is one of the sectors where we concluded a two year agreement.

Gina added that the effect of the 8% increase is a result of our two year agreement that we have completed in 2014, but this new agreement will come into effect on 1 July 2015.
