ANC denies rift claims
The ANC has vehemently denied reports claiming a rift has formed between President Thabo Mbeki and Secretary-General Kgalema Motlanthe. The Mail & Guardian reported that differences between the two men over the authenticity of a set of emails signified a developing struggle. The Intelligence Inspector General has found that the emails outlining a plot against Jacob Zuma and Motlhanthe were false. ANC spokesperson Smuts Ngonyama stresses that the members of the ANC National Executive Committee agreed to an additional internal ANC probe on the matter. He says there is no disagreement between Mbeki and Motlanthe on the issue and an enquiry task team has been established.
