210 hospitalised after factory gas leak
The number of workers admitted to four Cape Town hospitals following an ammonia gas leak at an ice cream factory in the southern suburbs has risen to 210. The fire brigade was called out to the scene on Wednesday morning. The city’s disaster management team and Metro police cleaned up the premises of the Vito’s ice cream factory in Lansdowne. The factory was temporarily closed and an area of 200 meters around the premises had been evacuated to ensure public safety. The reason for the gas leak has been attributed to a broken seal.
