Trans-Karoo trip snipped at Pretoria end

A trip on the Trans-Karoo Express will no longer be the same in future as the train no longer travels all the way to Pretoria. The Express left Pretoria station for the last time at the weekend. On the return journey from Cape Town it will in future only go as far as Johannesburg. This means that travellers going to Pretoria will have to either take another train or a bus for the last part of their journey. Spoornet spokesperson Moletwane Likhethe told The Argus that abandoning the Pretoria-Johannesburg sector was purely a business decision as too few people used the Trans-Karoo to or from the Tshwane area to make it economically viable.
