A 20 – year – old man drowned off Seaforth Beach, Simon’sTown on Sunday morning.
The man who got into difficulty while he was swimming with a friend in the surf had disappeared said Darren Zimmerman of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI).
An employee at a nearby restaurant Gary Bruce jumped into the water, and found the body of the man on a sandy floor.
The man did not have a pulse and was not breathing and rescuers tried to revive him, with no success.
Bruce told the Cape Times that he was highly praised for his brave effort in bringing the man to shore .
The NSRI has appealed to the public not to take risks that could put their lives in danger by trying to help each other.
