Some Cape Town residents experience power cuts

By Odette Ismail

There was a power cut in the southern suburbs, after two transformers tripped at the Philippi substation on Friday. According to IOL the spokesperson for Eskom, Fani Zulu, said that the electricity switched off after midnight.

Eskom investigated the power failure and came across two transformers that tripped at Philippi substation. This resulted in one of the transformers to be on fire, but the fire was put out around 2am.

Zulu mentioned that it could be possible that copper theft had sparked the whole problem. After 3:30 am electricity was restored to the affected areas.
