More than 50 family members and friends of Aakifah Salie attended her funeral yesterday. Little Aakifah was discovered at 7-o-clock on Wednesday morning in the commune where she lived in Lytton Street, Observatory.
She was lying in the bed she shared with her baby sister Tauhira, who was sleeping next to her at the time. After the funeral grandmother Shamiela Van Schoor told the Cape Times that the family was still in disbelief.
In speaking about the type of person Aakifah was, Van Schoor said she was a very quiet and disciplined child and, adding that the mother Faiza has been taking the tragedy very badly.
Yesterday police arrested a suspect in Voortrekker, Bellville. He is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates court soon.
