Langa residents illegally evicted eight families who were temporarily housed in a council owned block of flats in the area.
Some of the squatters who have been evicted were survivors of the Joe Slovo fire that occurred two years ago.
These families were living in Langa until they could be accommodated at the N2 Gateway project. Despite talks between the city and the community all negotiations failed.
The city’s director for human settlements Seth Maquthuka told the Cape Times that they would be consulting with their legal team on Monday and that the community should not have taken the law into their own hands.
The city is currently working on a long term solution to house the families.
