The 46-year-old suspect arrested in connection with the murder of Usande Dabula will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates court today. The man, from lower Crossroads, cannot be named until he has pleaded — and due to the sexual nature of the case.

Residents found Usande partially clothed in an open field in Symphony Road in Phillipi East at four-o-clock on Monday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Randall Stoffels told the Cape Times that the motive for the murder is still unknown but that the case will undergo further investigation. He adds that an autopsy will be completed to determine the cause of her death.

Members of the community searched for the suspect but instead set his house alight. The suspect escaped harm and fled to the Phillipi police station.

This brings about the second child murder in less than a week with the murder of Aakifah Salie last week. The number of children murdered recently in the Western Cape has risen to four with Celine Cowley and Ayanda Dlabantu in July.
