Western Cape adult learners come out tops

A ninety-seven-year-old great-grandmother who started school this year was given a special award over the weekend at the Learning Cape Festival’s adult learner awards. Anna Ernest, from Touwsrivier, collected her award in Durban on Saturday.
A physically disabled teenager from the Strand did the province proud when she won the South African Adult Learner of the Year Award. Nineteen-year-old Portia Godfrey excelled at her schooling despite extreme physical, medical and socio-economic conditions.
She says that winning the award was a very emotional and amazing experience for her. Godfrey says the support she received has been fantastic.
