Sources inside the Mamelodi Sundowns camp have revealed that newly appointed Sundowns coach, Gordon Igesund was the second-choice candidate for the post, the Cape Argus reports.
Pitso Mosimane, interim Bafana Bafana and Supersport United coach is believed to be the number one candidate, but eluded the big spending Sundowns president Patrice Motsepe.
Fired by Ajax Cape Town earlier this year, Igesund replaced joint coaches Neil Tovey and Miguel Gamondi as the head coach of the Pretoria based giant yesterday.
Sundowns will be playing their frst match this weekend under Igesund at the four-team Macufe tournament in the Free State. Other teams that will be be involved are Bleomfontein Celtics, Enyimba of Nigeria and hearts of Oak from Ghana.
