More community courts wanted

The City of Cape Town is set to ask the Department of Justice to increase the number of community courts.

Safety portfolio chairperson JP Smith says that the three community courts in Mitchell’s Plain, Gugulethu and the City Centre have been dealing successfuly with petty crimes.

According to the Cape Times the city launched community courts as a pilot project in 2004.

Smith said that he hopes to see courts roll out to more places across the city.
