Nyanga residents living on the unsafe Klipfontein road have agreed to move permanently from the area. This comes after two children were killed in an accident last week.
They have agreed with a council proposal to remove blockades so that the construction of concrete barricades, speed ramblers and new road signs and markings can be put in place.
About 250 people will be relocated towards the end of the year and the construction will take place soon.
Ward Councillor Depouch Elese told the Cape Times that the road had been closed since last week when residents burnt tyres due to the death of the two children.
All 11 committees representing the residents agreed with the proposal to move.
