By Chanel September
3 October 2006

Provincial government is working towards a new public transport system that is a safer and more reliable means of transport to all in the Western Cape.

The aims of this project are to enhance not only the mobility for people, but also improve economic growth within the province.

With October being the month of Public Transport this was celebrated with the opening of the ISO/TC 204 Outreach Workshops address by the Western Cape Minister, Marius Fransman.

Fransman said that “the new system intends to get signals out to people saying when their taxis or busses will be available”.

The system will also indicate when there are problems on the road so that people can prepare and make other arrangements.

The conference will be attended by 19 countries and has over 80 international experts.
