The Independent Democrats (ID), will hold Mayor of Cape Town, Helen Zille, personally responsible should Cape Town not be ready to the the 2010 Soccer World Cup events.
Several international organisations, including Fifa, have expressed great concern that Cape Town is way behind on planning and construction issues.
According to ID Metro Caucus leader, Simon Grindrod, the fact remains that many residents of Green and Sea Point simply do not want black football supporters visiting their area to make use of the envisaged stadium.
The forfeited tourism jobs and revenues will be an unprecedented tragedy for the City.
Grindrod says it is a disgrace that the City still has no clear decision on whether this site will be the existing Green Point stadium or the Golf Club estate.
Note: Mayoral spokesperson Robert MacDonald has since responded to this article, saying that the allegations made by Simon Grindrod is false and that the City is on track with the planning and construction plans for the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
