A Task team has been appointed to look into municipal houses used for criminal activities.
The task team comprising of city representatives, the city police and housing and land use departments was appointed during a meeting between various departments yesterday, the Cape Times reports.
Community Safety MEC Leonard Ramatlakane said they have identified more than 50 addresses with people who were furthering the aims of Crime.
Last month Ramatlakane announced that the department handed the City of Cape Town a file containing these addresses.
Executive support officer at the department Bongani Maqungwana said the idea was to elect a task team which is going to deal with the matter and investigate the file.
The city’s housing department will be leading the task team.
A report back will be expected on Friday before action would be taken.
People who are found to be using council houses for illegal activities could be evicted from their homes.
