Late registration of Grade 1 pupils by parents could see over 1000 of these pupils turned away
Western cape Education department spokesperson Gert Witbooi says parents have always been accustomed to rock up late for registration.
Over the past years, parents in the province have been more responsive to timely registration of their children.
The Cape Argus reports that the change comes after the department efforts to create awareness of the cut-off date for registration of pupils in November.
Witbooi could not provide the exact number of new Grade 1’s who had not been placed, out the estimated total of 8000, the number was below 1000.
Gauteng is the worst affected province by the problem with 36 000 Grade 1 pupils not yet placed.
