Survivors of the shack fire, near Milnerton which left one man dead and 445 homeless are back in their homes.
The fire according to daily report took six hours to be extinguished.
The fire took place at an informal settlement in Doornbach near Milnerton.
Vusymusi Mashana burnt to death when flames attacked his shack in the early hours of Tuesday morning. His body was found underneath a pile of rubble.
Wilfred Solomons of the City’s Disaster Management confirmed that 166 survivors have received building materials to restart the building of their houses. All 166 residents have their new homes built already.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. Police are currently investigating the incident.
