A Phoenix man was arrested for holding his son hostage in KwaZulu Natal.
Police had accompanied the mother to serve a court interdict for the custody of the five-year old boy.
Police spokesperson Muzi Mngomezulu says on arrival at the man’s house, the man had held the child hostage.
He threatened to cut the child’s throat with a knife and to kill himself should anyone try to take away the child.
Police negotiated with the man for an hour and the child was released and handed over to his mother.
The SABC website reports that an arrangement to counsel the child had been made.
The man was subsequently arrested, and charged with defeating the ends of Justice by obstructing the police from performing their duty according to the Domestic Violence act, insulting police, and other charges.
He will appear in court soon.
