An anti-drunken driving blitz campaign that started in the Western Cape on December 1st has resulted in nearly 318 drivers being arrested over the festive period.
MEC for Transport and Public Works Marius Fransman has therefore warned drunken drivers that they will be brought to book.
By Friday December 29, 296 drivers had been caught with blood/alcohol levels that made them a potential threat behind the wheel.
After the festive weekend 112 deaths had been confirmed in accidents on Western Cape roads.
MEC Fransman expressed his shock and says that he is deeply disappointed especially after all the work authorities have done to highlight the dangers of drinking and driving.
He also made it clear that a drunk behind the wheel of a car is a potential killer, and hoped that they will be viewed by the courts as such.
