The former station commissioner of Mossel Bay in the Southern Cape has been appointed to help stop gang violence in Cape Town crime hot-spot, Manenberg.

Director Gerhard Jantjies is an award winning crime fighter who was formerly based in Mitchell’s Plain. He arrived at the Manenberg police station a few days ago after the recent spate of shootings, including that of a five-year-old boy.

Cameron Adonis is still in a critical condition in hospital after he was shot in the head by a stray bullet, while in his bedroom at his home in Thames Road on Wednesday.

Mario Wanza of Proudly Manenberg says that in the meetings they’ve had with Jantjies, his approach and the positive commitments he’s made can only contribute towards change.

Jantjies together with Proudly Manenberg volunteers worked around the clock to ensure peace and stability in the region.

Police have appealed to the public to report any incidents to Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
