Bail refused for accused in two Cape Flats murders

Alleged gangster Khaleed Abrahams had his bail rejected, for two gang-related murders, in the Bellville Magistrates court yesterday.

Magistrate Helma Smith ruled yesterday that there were no compelling or exceptional circumstances justifying Abraham’s release on bail, according to the Cape Times.

A detective investigating the murders told the court that he had no objection to Abrahams being released on bail.

It is believed that Smith told the suspect it was clear that the murders he allegedly was involved in were related to gang wars and the unlawful use of a firearm.

She went on to say that the investigating officer did not make the decision as to whether he would receive bail or not.

The judge says one of the two murders was where the victim was shot in the head from a vehicle, which shows that his attacker had taken aim at him.

Abrahams faces charges of murdering Jacobus Pietersen in a drive-by shooting in January, and then killing Ricardo Brown in a similar incident.

He has also been charged with attempted murder after wounding Roderick Siegelaar March 1, the day Abrahams had been arrested.

Smith says that his defence attorney was trying his luck by concluding that the state did not have a strong case.

He has been remanded to September 28.
