The Metro police launched a “Stay Safe” campaign yesterday due to the escalation in the abuse of women and children in Tafelsig.
The launch was attended by deputy Mayor Charlotte Williams and mayoral committee member for Safety and Security Dumisani Ximbi.
The Mitchells Plain community gathered at the launch where children were entertained by local artists and singers.
Ximbi told children that they were the future of South Africa and that they are loved.
Meanwhile, Williams reportedly told the mothers present that they need to put the needs of their children before themselves.
Nowellen Peterson, metro police spokesperson says, communities need to be vigilant and stand together in dealing with child safety. He says, people are getting tired of being kept inside, as they live like prisoners in their own homes.
