NSRI activated after drowning incident

The National Sea Rescue Institute Netcare 911 helicopter and Kommertjie services has been activated following reports of a drowning in progress at Soetwater near Kommertjie.

A 31-year-old man from Retreat had been rescued from the surf by by-standers following a drowning accident from unknown causes.

Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) was initiated by the by-standers when the NSRI and other medical staff arrived on the scene.

Paramedics continued with extensive CPR efforts on the scene which were terminated after all efforts to resuscitate the man were exhausted.

According to a statement released by the NSRI, by-standers reported that the man dived into the surf where he appeared to be experiencing difficulty in the surf from unknown causes. Four by-standers rescued him from the surf and initiated CPR.
