A Polo field employee from Plettenberg Bay was found approximately 2 metres down the dam in Bitou yesterday.
The 36-year-old is believed to have been gardening next to the dam when he fell.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon says it is not known how he ended up in the dam.
Rescuers lunged two-metres underwater and rescued the man and performed cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on the scene.
He was taken to hospital in a serious condition, where he was later declared dead after all efforts to stabilize him.
The cause of death has not been determined.
