Cabinet has approved a five-year National Strategic Plan (NSP) for combating HIV, Aids and other sexually transmitted diseases.
This follows cabinet’s fortnightly meetings in Pretoria this past week.
Government spokesperson Thembe Maseko says, “The executive had been briefed on the newly constituted SA National Aids Council (Sanac)”.
He added that “Government is pleased to note that the Sanac stakeholders endorsed the NSP for 2007 until 2011”.
According to a daily paper NSP’s primary goal is to reduce new HIV infections and achieve a 50% drop in the infection rate by 2011.
