eNatis a problem for all motorists

Tempers have flared at several traffic departments as the new National Traffic System (eNatis) is still problematic, as drivers wanting to renew their licenses had to join a long queue.

The queues stretched into parking lots at Gallow Hill in Green Point, Hillstar in Ottery and Elsies River, while traffic officials tried to keep motorists calm.

According to a daily newspaper, the demand for licence renewals was so great in Ottery that many parked on pavements, only to be fined as well.

It had been reported that many people were turned away as soon as 1pm because of the volumes inside the traffic department.

Most of the drivers had taken off from work to have their licences renewed and some were there for the fourth time, despite joining the queue as early as 8am.

Metro police spokesperson, Kevin Maxwell, said that they could not confirm any of the four system crashes, “All I can say is that we know the system is slow, but its running fine.”
