Residents of Grassy Park took to the streets yesterday to protest against the rid of drug houses and shebeens in the area.
Approximately 500 frustrated residents marched to 10 shebeens and the homes of known drug dealers were notices were delivered demanding that illegal activities come to an end.
Chairman of the Grassy Park Community Policing Forum, Phillip Bam says “we want communities to be safe for our children and not expose them to drugs and alcohol at a young age. The must be free to grow up in an environment were they are not exposed to these sort of elements”.
He added that “tik was one of the most popular drugs in the area”.
The community also adopted a memorandum against the amendments of the Land Use Planning, that would legalise shebeens.
