The ANC Youth League says they are surprised that their application for a permit to march in Cape Town on Wednesday has been denied.

They planned to protest throughout the country to demand decent jobs for the youth, but the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape, Provincial Police Commissioner Mzwandile Petros has banned all marches due to the massive public servants strike.

Spokesperson for the ANC Youth League Zizi Kodwa says in a meeting with officials, it was revealed that residents, especially the business sector felt that the mass marches were a disruption. The problem of no police being available was also raised, but the ANCYL says this is political.

“The ANCYL will appeal to the Office of Public Protector against this act of dying breed of apartheid demons who seek to reversethe gains of our struggle “, says Kodwa.

Meanwhile Charles Cooper of the City’s Communications denies the issue is political and says all marches are banned due to the strike. He says the availability of the police is an issue due to large numbers attending to the strike.
