The Western Cape Education Department has reiterated once again that schools in the province will commence as per normal on Friday despite the national strike planned by teachers and other public servants across the country.
Thousands of teachers are expected to join an indefinite public strike but “schools will not be closed”, says MEC Education spokesperson Gert Witbooi.
“At schools where necessary teachers are striking, the department would deploy education officials to supervise pupils”, says Witbooi.
Parents have been called on by the department to help supervise at their local schools.
According to the department district officials already have an idea which schools will be hit the hardest by the strike.
Despite contingency plans set by the department to ensure that learning is not affected the strike would take place indefinitely.
