Another gang-related shooting claimed the lives of two young girls and left five people seriously wounded yesterday evening in Wesbank, Mfuleni.

Superintendent Billy Jones confirms that last night 13-year-old Alicia Cloete and 18-year-old Edwina Wing were left fatally wounded in Lovernore Steet, Wesbank Mfuleni.

“The two deceased and the other five people were sitting around a fire in front of the house, when two unknown armed men approached on foot and fired several shots at them.” says Jones.

The suspects then fled the scene but police say the two were spotted earlier in the same area driving in a light blue Toyota Corolla.

“The deceased had bullet wounds to their chests and stomachs, they died on the scene." confirms Jones.

Meanwhile both Wings’ sisters Sharon, aged eight, and Wilma aged 13 years old, were also critically wounded in their stomach and legs respectively.

The other three, 13-year-old Enrico Tafel, 23-year-old Andrew Michaels and 38-year-old Johannes van der Westhuizen are in hospital as well, after being shot.

Jones says the incident seems to be gang-related but will investigate other possibilities. Police have launched a search for the suspects and opened a case of murder and attempted murder.
