Members of the Congress of Democratic Taxi Association (Codeta) have been charged with the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Five members who appeared in the Kuilsriver Magistrates Court were released on R500 bail, this just after a week when 14 others were released on R300 bail for opening fire in a municipal area.

According to a daily paper the State confirmed that the five had no previous convictions, pending cases or outstanding warrants against them.

All 19 suspects were arrested after a shoot-out erupted at the intersection of Old Paarl and Okovango roads in Northpine. Three people were wounded in the shooting incident.

The suspects are to appear in court on October 26.
